Mission and Purpose

The primary goal of the Juniors Program is to promote and encourage youth to participate in the sport of American Kennel Club purebred dog events with German Shorthaired Pointers, as well as to become active in the GSPCA. Juniors are the promise of what tomorrow will bring in the sport of purebred dogs whether in the field, show or performance ring.

The mission and purpose will be achieved by the Board creating a Juniors Program committee.  The committee will foster and reward youth participation, teach ethics in animal care, handling and training practices, and encourage young people to become actively involved in the sport.  This committee will be offering incentives such as, but not limited to, scholarships to help with continued education at an institute of higher education and event grants offered for attendance at the Junior Showmanship Competition at the Westminster Kennel Club, at the AKC National Championship Dog Shows, and other AKC Nationals events for Agility, Obedience, Rally or the Pointing Field Championships.

The GSPCA and its members will remain supportive of, and encourage, junior handlers, whenever possible, to maintain their enthusiastic interest in the sport of purebred dogs and with German Shorthaired Pointers in particular. The GSPCA will provide opportunities for mentoring, assisting, and recognizing young people who demonstrate a sincere interest in the breed of German Shorthaired Pointers.
