2012 GSPCA Election

Cynthia McCracken

Candidate for Vice President

It’s ALL about the dogs!

For those of you who know me, you have seen me work for the GSPCA - working to make the Club run smoothly so we can show the world our wonderful Shorthairs doing what they do best. You have noticed my keen interest in learning more about showing and field trialing and about the other venues that our Shorthairs excel in – hunt testing, rally, agility, tracking and obedience. Learning is a lifelong process. It is a privilege to learn about the membership’s passion, the love of their respective sport and the dedication it takes to produce the top dogs in our breed in all venues.

For those who don’t know me, you will see me watching the dogs, talking with Club members, sharing information with exhibitors, and extolling the virtues of our beloved GSP’s to new and potential members. You will see me greet the dog first, before the person, because it’s ALL about the dogs!

My 1st horse was a dog! I have been involved with dogs since birth, with my family having Irish Setters, Bassett Hounds and other breeds. An animal lover from the onset, and like all young girls, I wanted horses along with my dogs. I am told I rode Lady, our Irish Setter, up and down the stairs before I could walk. Finally convincing my father to get a real horse, I showed horses professionally until I returned to my first love – raising and showing dogs.

I have been involved passionately with German Shorthaired Pointers for over 35 years on both coasts – in California and in Pennsylvania. After studying biology and music in college, I started as a dental assistant, progressing to office manager of a six (6) Dentist office. In California, I managed a ten (10) doctor neurosurgical practice.

Returning to the dogs, my husband Michael and I started MiCyn in 1976. Concentrating on GSP’s, we also have champion PBGV’s. While we have numerous Champions, one of the most rewarding was CH Bleugras Treffen v MiCyn. I finished Treffen by going Best of Winners & Winners Dog at the 2001 GSP Nationals. I enjoy the well-rounded capabilities of the GSP, so our Shorthairs earned their JH titles, including Treffen at age six (6).

I believe deeply in bettering the German Shorthaired Pointer, as defined by our Mission and Philosophy:

  • We are committed to our breeds for life
  • We have the patience to allow young dogs to grow up – both emotionally and physically – to reach their potential
  • We show to promote the dog fancy, MiCyn dogs and sportsmanship
  • We will be friends outside the ring, fierce competitors inside, and friends again outside the ring
  • We will breed to the standard to improve the breed
  • We strongly believe a cornerstone to the future of the dog fancy is the owner-handler
  • We advocate judges judging dogs; we support judge education
  • Dogs are family
  • We love our dogs

I offer to assist in the continued improvement of the German Shorthaired Pointer Club of America during the transition from one (1) to two (2) secretaries having served two (2) terms as Secretary.

I am honored to accept the nomination from my peers for Vice President of the GSPCA.
