2012 GSPCA Election

Renee Lara DVM

Candidate for Vice President

I would be honored to run for GSPCA Vice President. My name is Dr. Renee Lara. I graduated from Texas A & M veterinary school in 1984 and have owned my veterinary clinic in Bryan, Texas since 1990 where I have been blessed with a growing business for the past 20 years. I have two associates, which allows me to pursue my hobby of breeding and showing dogs.

I purchased my first GSP in 1977. I was previously involved in obedience and started showing her in conformation. “Mischief” my foundation bitch finished her Championship and produced 17 Champions in three litters. She was top producing dam for two years. I have since bred or co-bred over 100 AKC Champions, multiple obedience and agility titled dogs, BIS and BISS winning GSPs. My lines have also been competitive in the hunt test venue proving their hunting abilities with multiple Master, Senior and Junior hunter titles over the years. I now own and have bred several GSP’s that are actively pursuing their field titles and have kept abreast of the issues involved with the field venue.

I have been involved as a continuous member of the GSPCA since 1980. I have served on the health and welfare committee, the GSPCA NSS national executive show committee and have been in charge of merchandise at the last nine national show events. I served as chair on the NSS executive show committee and was instrumental in revising the running rules for this committee. I am now serving on the NSS executive show committee and the Health and Welfare committee. I have served in the Brazos Valley Veterinary Association as Secretary, Vice President and President. I have coordinated and run National Heartworm Awareness campaigns for Brazos Valley for 10 years. I am a past Board Member of the Brazos Valley Kennel Club.

My goal as a breeder is to produce a versatile, healthy GSP that makes a great family pet and excels in the conformation and performance venues. In order to keep the health of our breed positive the breeders must be open and honest. I feel that it is the Parent Clubs responsibility to help our membership achieve this goal.

The board’s purpose is to represent the membership and make decisions in the best interest of the membership. I feel our membership needs to become more involved with the running of the parent club and to do this you need to take the time to voice your opinion and what better place to start than by sending in your ballot.
