GSPCA Debbie King

Candidate for Southeast Director

I feel very honored to have been asked by an officer of the GSPCA to run for the position of Southeast Director.  After carefully considering I have decided to accept this nomination.  I truly love our breed and I would like the opportunity to work with the Southeastern membership and our Board Members to further advance our great dogs!

Our family had dogs as long as I can remember and before, beginning with our great German Shepherd named Duke.  As my Dad tells the story, this wonderful dog saved my life as a toddler.    Being a toddler and racing towards the street with my new found legs and freedom, I was unaware of the car racing down the street.  As my Dad stood there horrified, enter Duke.   According to my Dad, Duke recognized his fear and raced into action.  Duke chased me down, knocked me over and grabbed my clothing to pull me back towards my Father’s awaiting arms.  We’ve been blessed with dogs in our lives ever since.

Moving forward - I received my first GSP in 1976 and bred my first litter in 1979. This litter produced 3 show champions with one selected as Parent club show dog of the year in 1984. Since that time, and with very limited litters, I have Bred over 40 Show Champions, 2 Field Trial Champions to include a Dual Champion and a National Field Trial Champion. I’ve ridden at many of our National Field trial events in Eureka, KS and other FT venues across our country.

My registered kennel name with AKC is Liebmeister, and I’m currently recognized as an AKC Breeder of Merit.

I have been a member of the GSPCA since 1977 and I served on The National Specialty show executive show committee.

While living in Mobile, AL during the early 1980’s I served as the show chairperson for many years and was also the club president before moving to Birmingham, AL.

During the late 1980’s I became a founding member of the GSP club of Atlanta. During the start up, I organized all the matches and hunt tests which allowed the club to become licensed with the AKC. I have chaired hunt tests, marshaled Hunt tests, Field trials, planted birds, cooked for these events and cleaned up after everyone left. I served as the Show Chairperson and the Trophy and Hospitality Chairperson for many years at our specialty shows. I’ve helped organize seminars ranging from the AKC Hunt tests to dog show handling.

I feel I have the level of knowledge and background to assist our club members in progressing with our goals while our club continues to promote our objectives and our wonderful breed.

Thank you for your time and consideration in voting for me as your Southeast Director.
