GSPCA GSPCA Store Jerry Paddock

Candidate for East Central Director | Back

I am 62 years of age and have very good health, active and able to go.  A knee replacement this year has not slowed me as of yet.  Married for 43 years to my lovely wife Faye who is getting ready to retire.  I have 2 wonderful daughters and 4 wonderful grandchildren to spoil as best that I can.

I retired as a police officer in June 1998 after 32 years of service.  At the time of retirement, I was a lieutenant and assistant commander of the Criminal Investigations Section of the Evansville Police Department.  During my career, I was a patrol officer, sergeant of patrol, training sergeant of the department, lieutenant of the Personnel and Training Section and ran the hiring process for 11 years, hiring 130 police officers.  My career as an officer was very enjoyable and very fulfilling.

I am currently the security director for a large arena which has about 125 events a year, schedule and supervise the inside and outside security detail.  It is comprised of sworn police officers and civilian staff, as well.  This is my funding source to run my bird dogs and compete on the circuit.

I began in 1986 by purchasing a started GSP that was 23 months old to use as a hunting dog.  I bought the dog from Mr. Jim Batson of Burr Oaks Kennel.  He was wonderful and we had a tremendous time chasing the elusive bob white quail of southern Indiana and Illinois.  He was a great dog.  I tried running him in NSTRA events locally and he was a good one, just not broke for a bird to walk around in front of him.  Lost him to a traffic collision.

With the next dog my interest in AKC trials emerged and I started running those, with the help of Batson.  In 1990, Burr Oaks Hoosier Buddy came to live at my house.  Derby points were achieved for him and he later became my 1st field champion.  He was wonderful.  Campaigned him with a pro and by myself until I retired him after winning the 1999 NGSPA Pheasant All-Age Championship.  He was a great dog and has added a lot to the breed and hope to add a lot more from his get and grand-get down the road.  Hoosier Buddy was the 2001 Obedience Sire of the Year and he sired a number of national champions and NGSPA hour champions and these dogs are a long way from being done as producers..

I continue to campaign his get and grand get from that time to now.  Buddy took us to lots of places.  National German Pointing Dog Assn was my first championship love and went there and worked.  I was put on the board and then became chairman.  I was chairman of the All-Breed for about 5 years. Buddy also took us to the GSPCA Nationals in Kansas and after going to that one I fell in love with that trial,  as well.

I am a worker and a doer at field trials, can't sit.  For many years have driven the dog wagon for the amateur championship and was given the responsibility of managing the field futurity about 7 years ago and just love this opportunity.   The size of the futurity,  as far as the number of entries,  has reached record levels, and I feel that every dog entered should have the opportunity to show his/her ability as to the hunting prowess and sufficient birds in front of them to find a bird and point it.  All entrants have the same opportunity to "do their thing" and "show their stuff".  I  felt in 2006 that we could improve the futurity course and put the dogs on fresh ground.  I sought the approval of the chairman.  He and I visited the grounds, laid out a course.  There were a lot of great comments and satisfied people.

Members of the GSPCA board approached me and asked if I would serve as the coordinator for the GSPCA Hall of Fame nominations which I have done for 2 years.  It is very satisifying to receive the information on these great dogs, package it for presentation to the board of directors for consideration and vote.

I have also been a judge for 15 years and have judged in a lot of states.  Including the Canada Shooting Dog championship.  When not working, I  would love to judge the futurity some time. But, as long as I am involved with the putting on and running of the futurity, it will have to wait.

My plans are to stay involved as long as I can and to have a working job to do at the nationals for as long as I can.  I presently own 4 shorthairs, 2 girls and 2 boys and are preparing them for a future as field field trialers.  My present dog, FC/AFC Durfur's Hoosier LB (lil Bud) finished his AFC this year at Atlanta GSP.   He has also has a tremendous NGSPA year and has won 6 one hour championships this year, amateur, open shooting dog and All-Age championships.  He is a very good dog and loves to find birds, point them and he let’s me shoot them when he is home hunting with me.  He currently is a 10X NGSPA Champion and he is on a roll and hot.

I would truly love to have the support from the membership to serve as a director for the GSPCA.  I appreciate your time in reading this information and your vote as well.  I always have a good ear to listen.

Respectfully submitted,

Jerry Paddock
