GSPCA GSPCA Store June Johnston

Candidate for East Central Director | Back

My professional background is accounting and human resources.  I am Controller of an architectural firm in Nashville, TN.  My Bachelor degree is in Finance, my Masters in Organizational Management, and my Doctorate in Education (research project was on the topic of cost accounting in a service organization).

Johnny and I live in Ashland City, TN and until we purchased a 12-week-old German Shorthaired Pointer puppy (who became CH Pointsetter Run Jane Run JJJ, CD, RN, MH, OA, OAJ) from Charlie and Amy Edwards in December, 2000. Our passion was golf from March through October and quail hunting from November through February.

We feel fortunate to have met the wonderful people of the Indiana GSP Club who befriended and encouraged us.  Charlie Edwards even showed Jane for us at the 2001 Nationals where she won her class.  (Johnny showed her in the Sweepstakes and she took a second.  He was the one with the toothpick in his mouth and change and keys rattling in his pockets.)   We were hooked immediately and now our life revolves around AKC Hunting Tests, Field Trials, Tracking, Agility, Obedience and Conformation events.

I am currently the Secretary of the German Shorthaired Pointer Club of Middle Tennessee and have served as its Treasurer, Field Trial Secretary, Field Trial Chairman, and Water Test Secretary.  I was also the Field Trial Secretary for the 2003 AKC Pointing Breed Gun Dog Championships; an event our club put together with a little over three months’ notice.  I served two years as Treasurer of the GSPCA.

In the all-breed Nashville Dog Training Club, I have taught obedience classes and served on the Agility Committee.  I am currently Chair for their 3-day Fall Agility Trials.

For 10 years, I was Chair and Treasurer of an all-breed horse show which attracted  700 to 800 class entries. This event was held in Shelbyville, TN and called "The Festival of Horses." From 1996-1999 I served as Chairman of the Tennessee Horse Council's State Volunteer Horse Fair.

In the seven years since getting that first GSP puppy for conformation, CH Pointsetter Run Jane Run JJJ, CD, RN, MH, OA, OAJ, we have acquired three more GSP puppies for hunting, conformation, and performance, 2 Pointer puppies for conformation and hunting, and 2 Pug puppies for a young niece to show in Junior Showmanship.

I train and handle my own dogs in agility, obedience and tracking. Johnny trained and handled Ch. Jane CD, RN, MH, OA, OAJ,   Ch. Fancy VCD2, TDX, RN, MH, AX, MXJ and Sonny MH to their Master Hunter titles.   Fancy spent 3 months in training with Jon & Cindy Hann and needs 4 more points for an Amateur Field Champion title…she earned the major win with me handling!!!

I love everything --- conformation, performance events, and the field events and feel I bring to the table a well-rounded understanding of all areas in which German Shorthaired Pointers excel: Field, Hunting Tests, Water Retrieving Tests, Conformation, Agility, Obedience and Tracking.

If you elect me as Director of the GSPCA, I pledge to do all in my power to help keep the focus on the German Shorthaired Pointer as a versatile breed.

Thank you very much,
June Johnston.
