I apologize for the length of this biography but I felt it was important for all to know of my involvement in all aspects of our beloved GSPs. If appointed as a Director, I will serve for the good of all. I want to see sportsmanship and fun returned to what it was when I first started! I also want to see judges mentored or re-mentored in the standards of the breed both in the field and conformation. Health and welfare for our breed should be all members primary concerns, not just the breeders. That being said, we must strive to breed only healthy dogs with excellent temperaments. We must bring in youth and mentor them or we won’t have a sport! We have to be progressive and committed and all work toward these goals AND, we have to have FUN! I feel it’s an honor to be considered to represent the breed I so love. My husband, Alan and I got our first GSP in 1978. Our life has never been the same! First and foremost, we are passionate about our breed! Our dogs are our loyal family companions and for us the “Ultimate” Upland Gun Dog! All the accolades and awards are secondary to producing sound loving family dogs. Our goal is to consistently produce the “BEST” family dogs we can for TEMPERAMENT, HEALTH, BIRD SENSE and BEAUTY. I have been married to Alan since 1980. In 1979, for Christmas, I got a Remington 20 guage…not an engagement ring! We have always hunted our dogs! We began breeding about 30 years ago. I entered the show ring twelve years ago. We have 17 show champions in those twelve years to our credit. Five have come from the Bred By Exhibitor Classes and I’m working on 6,7,8 and 9. Six of our dogs have been ranked from #50 down to #9 in the top GSP Show Dogs in the US. We have had one Canadian CH. ranked #9 in 2004. Our FC, Bodie, was a top ranked Puppy/Derby Dog. Our granddaughters, Nicole Lynn and Tiffany Rose Owens, 13 and 12 are in the AKC Junior Showmanship program. Nicole, at age 10, finished her first GSP, CH. Winter Creek’s Federal Express, JH. Nicole has switched her talents to Dalmatians, Field Spaniels, GWPs and any other breed she can get her hands on. But, she occasionally handles for me and did win Best Junior @ the 2007 GSPC of Reno SS. She is the 2007 #2 Dal Breed Junior Handler in the US and #10 Top Non-Sporting Group for 2007. Both girls qualified for the 2008 CALIFORNIA BEST JUNIOR LIMITED COMPETITION in conjunction with the Sun Maid KC shows held in Fresno, CA. Nicole was the youngest FINALIST and won a wonderful scholarship. Tiffany shows GSPs, Dals and PWDs and Affenpinchers and has her first Hanavese Junior Dog. Both girls qualified in wins for 2007’s Eukanuba Invitational as did grandma and grandpa! Our 2006 Top Ten girl, BISS. CH. Seven Hills Gala Premier, JH. qualified for Crufts 2008 but she has more important responsibilities in the whelping box. We proudly own our first but, not last, Field Champion, FC. Winter Creek’s Bodacious T-Bone, JH. #2, CH. Winter Creek’s EZ Rider, JH. is a work in progress! He is half way home to an MH too. We have a new contender at home, those of you who trial you will recognize the name of “Booker”. We are thrilled to have a son from FC. PJ’s It’s a Bet’s first litter. Winter Creek’s Ace In The Hole will be out as soon as he reaches 6 months. We have had Master and Senior Hunters and all our dogs are at least Junior Hunters and do bring home the meat. I am a member of four local GSP clubs, GSPC of Central California, Sutter Buttes (Officer/Board Member), GSPC of Northern Sacramento Valley (Board Member) and GSPC of Reno, Nevada. We are, of course, members in good standing of the National Parent Club. We are also members of the Northern California Brittany Club, Gold Country English Setter Club, the all-breed club, Sacramento Valley Dog Fanciers and I’m a member of the Dalmatian Club of No. CA. (I co-own a Dalmatian puppy bitch. (If it has spots, I guess it’s ok)! I am the delegate and a board member on the Sacramento Council of Dogs for GSPs. I have been their recording secretary for the last four years and will continue in that capacity. I chair the Council’s Fun Match each November. (Al cooks his famous Venison Chili for everyone at the match and they love it)! The Council had a BUSY 2007 spring and summer fighting AB1634 but so far so good! Please follow all the dog legislation in your area and act accordingly!! In 2006, the American Kennel Club re-established the Hunt Test Advisory Committee to govern Hunt Tests. I’m extremely pleased to have been selected by the GSPCA and AKC as the delegate designated to work in concert with AKC representing German Shorthaired Pointers throughout the United States. Hunt Tests are one of my greatest passions! I have been a Hunt Test/Field Trial Judge for twelve years and Alan is a Field Gunner. We perform these duties for most of the pointing breed clubs, GWPS, Viz, ES, Brits, not just shorthairs, in our area. I judge Conformation Sweepstakes for all sporting breeds and also many of the six other “groups” besides Sporting, plus doing All Breed Matches for different kennel clubs when I’m asked and/or our schedule allows. In 2007 my Sweeps assignments were in GSPs, Vizs, Springers, Weims and judging the Sporting breeds/groups for the San Joaquin Kennel Club’s Sanctioned Fall Match. I also stewarded for the No. Cal. Dalmatian club Specialty Show. I have one SS assignment in Pennsylvania so far this year and I will be helping out at our National Specialty Show in May 2008. My Marz, 1993 - 2007, was my VC titled GSP. I have had fun in the Agility and Rally arenas; I have never competed seriously but it’s coming. I want to start tracking this year too, time permitting.
