Hall Of Fame ~ Nomination

Nomination Requirements for GSPCA Hall Of Fame for Individuals

The GSPCA Hall of Fame for individuals was created to honor those persons who have made outstanding contributions to the welfare and advancement of the German Shorthair above the ordinary or self-interest.

Any man or woman meeting the stated qualifications may be nominated for induction using the proper form which shall be made available from the GSCPA Board of Directors through it’s secretary. Nominations shall be sent to members of the board of directors in advance of its annual winter meeting for voting on new members once a year. A simple majority of the board in attendance shall be sufficient for induction. The inductee need not be deceased for election to The Hall of Fame for Individuals.

Persons nominated may be either amateur or professional; in the case of professionals, their contributions must be above the normal training of dogs performed as a part of their profession.

Inductees shall have their names pictures and contributions published in the next available official GSPCA news medium, and a news release shall be prepared and sent to the inductees hometown newspaper, television and or radio station. The inductees shall be given a certificate and a plaque with the name and date of the award. In addition they will also be given lifetime honorary membership with all its attendant privileges.

Inductees from 1980 or after must have been a member of the GSPCA. Before 1980 any individual otherwise meeting the criteria may be nominated

The most important aspect of this program is the criteria for nomination and selection. The contributions must be more than just having a big winning dog or attending trials and/or shows where someone else handles their dogs. Their contributions must have had an everlasting effect on the advancement and welfare of the GSP.

The qualifications must be very clear and the selection of award winners fair and unbiased.

QUALIFICATIONS

Nominees must have made an outstanding contribution or contributions to the welfare and advancement of the German Shorthair Pointer above the ordinary and beyond personal benefit. Many people have selflessly worked toward the betterment of the breed through specific jobs or individual acts but only those persons who have made clearly documented achievements that have had an everlasting effect on the betterment of the breed shall be considered.

The qualifications for this award must transcend the mere ownership of an outstanding dog, numerous victories in competition or engaging personalities that have made individuals highly recognizable. In short, the candidates chosen will be those individuals that have made it happen through their sustained efforts and personal sacrifice of time and labor. Their contributions must be of the magnitude that they would be recognized as the architects of the foundation on which the foundation of the shorthair of today and tomorrow stands.

This qualification is purposely broad to include individuals who have made significant contributions but do not necessarily fall into some specific category. At the same time, it is extremely narrow in definition so as to limit access to only those persons who stand out clearly as having made some contribution above and beyond all others. The individuals honored shall have earned their awards through personal merit rather than popularity and their efforts must have caused actions of everlasting value.

  1. Priority will be given for the following types of accomplishments;
    Individuals who have helped form, guide, structure, and administer The German Shorthair Club of America through their individual actions that have resulted in a strong organization that protects the breed and serves it’s constituency. The mere holding of office or committee position is not a qualifying act in itself. What did the individual do beyond the expected performance, and what effects did that activity have on the well being of the breed?
  2. Persons whose pioneering efforts helped establish the breed in the USA. through importation, distribution and promotion of shorthairs. An accumulation of efforts of an individual which resulted in improvement of the breed beyond personal gain should be considered.
  3. Persons who have improved the breed through creation of events for proper evaluation of performance and conformation, or have helped solve problems affecting the club’s performance should be considered.

These are major examples of contributions that elevate an individual above all others as being worthy of consideration for nomination into The Hall of Fame for Individuals. Most nominations will fit into these categories, but there may be individuals with qualification of equal value in other areas who should be considered.
